Riding Blue Ridge · Linn Cove Viaduct
The Linn Cove Viaduct is the most photographed section of the Blue Ridge Parkway: a concrete bridge that curves around the side of Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, built that way so the road would not scar the mountain. It was the last piece of the Parkway to be finished, in 1987.
The Parkway is a slow, scenic road: the speed limit is 45 mph or lower, there are no commercial trucks, and the views from the overlooks are the point. Sections close for weather in winter and after storms, so check the National Park Service closures before planning a trip.
Nearby Blowing Rock and Boone are the usual bases, and the viaduct is an easy stop on a longer ride along the Parkway.
